Anthony J. (Tony) Fabian

Tony Fabian is a Colorado native, raised in the mountain town of Leadville at an altitude of nearly two miles above sea level. A 1987 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland and a Navy veteran, he served as a division officer aboard the battleship USS Iowa (BB-61), as aide and flag lieutenant to Rear Admiral Byron E. Tobin, Jr., commander of the world’s largest naval base in Norfolk, VA, and on the staff of Commander, Naval Forces Korea before his Honorable Discharge in 2000. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Denver College of Law in 1996 and served as a prosecutor in the Eighteenth Colorado Judicial District for nearly five years, where he prosecuted traffic, misdemeanor, juvenile and felony cases in Arapahoe, Douglas and Elbert counties. After working as an associate for the private civil law firms of Halaby Cross & Schluter and Cross & Liechty, P.C., where he defended local governments and their employees, along with policyholders of State Farm Insurance, in civil litigation, Tony has operated his own law practice in Castle Rock for the past several years, emphasizing criminal defense and other personal litigation. In addition to serving as an instructor and mentor in the University of Denver College of Law Lawyering Process course for the past several years, Tony has been an instructor for the Community College of Aurora Police Academy since 1998, teaching courses in Search and Seizure law, Rules of Evidence, and Courtroom Testimony. He teaches similar courses, in addition to lawful use of force, for the Aurora City Marshal continuing training program. He also regularly conducts private courses on Colorado firearms law and the law pertaining to the use of force.

Tony help draft firearms legislation enacted in 2003 pertaining to uniform, shall-issue concealed carry of handguns and state pre-emption of local firearms restrictions. He also writes a legal information column, “The Hired Gun—Firearms and the Law,” for Colorado Shooting, the Colorado State Shooting Association magazine.
